Art comes in many forms - music, singing, acting, videography, film-making, photography, crafts, drawing, calligraphy, painting, graffiti, graphics, animation, designing, architecture and literature, to name just a few. One of these many art forms that has recently gathered visibility, traction and speed is a particular form of sculpting. Obviously, sculpting is of various types - the one we are discussing is sand sculpting which is a fairly recent phenomena. All of us remember those days in our childhood when we would go the beach with our sand buckets and digging tools to makes castles in the sand. When we reminiscence those times, it naturally gets nostalgic. Of course, we were essentially toddlers - so while the effort was quite high, yet we lacked the skill as children.

However, the competitive art of sand sculpting is far removed from those attempts we made as children. Amazing as it may sound, there are artists who can use ordinary and simple sand as a medium and bring life in to various sculptures of sand. If we stop to think about it, is amazing on what can be done with just sand! These constructions are done elaborately with nothing else but sand! In recent times, this form of sculpting has become extremely popular and for good reason. There are now world class competitions spread across the globe that pit top artists against each other in sand sculpting.

Today, there are more than 20 sand sculpting competitions conducted in various parts of the world through the year. When these competitions are on, it is like a festival where people can walk in and watch sculptors make things come alive. Imagine amazing structures such as dinosaurs, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Smurfs and other themes come alive right in front of your eyes! Unbelievable as it may be, these sculptures are made out of just sand and water. It is easy to be blown away by the sheer size and complexity of each design.
